Ratchet Straps Keep Cargo Safe

BY ADMIN | 25-03-2022

You might be wondering, what's the best way to lighten the load? This is a good question. It all depends on what you're towing, but the most common way to tie it down is ratchet straps.

Ratchet straps come in a variety of sizes, the most common being 1-4 inches wide. Each of these different sizes has a different breaking strength and working load limit. These are the two numbers the Department of Transportation uses to enforce certain existing laws.

The type of ratchet straps or tie-down straps you use should have a working load limit well above the actual load to provide an extra layer of safety against load transfer that could lead to an accident. Using bungee cords and cords is far less of an option than lacing ties.

For extremely heavy loads, you may want to consider using chains to secure your load. Chains tend to be stronger than standard tie-down straps, so they are often used to haul heavy machinery. They're also stiffer than shoulder straps, so they're able to hold loads tighter under enormous pressure without stretching or tearing.
